Let’s start with a general cleanup of the garden, such as removing dead leaves and old mulches. We can then proceed to remove all diseased leaves in order to stop them developing and spreading all over the garden. Afterward, we can start preparing the soil: we do some uprooting, some hoeing and weeding, then we use a garden fork or a spade to turn over the soil. We need to get rid of the weeds and level the ground with a rake, next we add some fertiliser to poor soils and clean the perennials flowerbed removing what is left from last year. Now we can enrich the soil with some fresh humus. We also need to cut out dead wood from hydrangeas and other plants that shed their leaves during winter.
